Research Interest
Dr. Colditz’s research is situated at the intersection of alcohol/substance use and digital health. He uses computational social science methods (e.g., social media surveillance, natural language processing, machine learning) to understand psychosocial predictors of recovery from addictive disorders. He is particularly interested in how various modalities of social support (e.g., family and peers, 12-step groups, online community forums) impact addiction recovery trajectories and outcomes. Dr. Colditz develops digital behavioral interventions to enhance psychosocial support in recovery from addiction and related health conditions.
Clinical Interest
Dr. Colditz is particularly interested in the role of peer navigators and peer support services in enhancing recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders in general practice settings.
Educational Interest
Dr. Colditz has instructed accelerated courses on clinical research methods at the Institute for Clinical Research Education and guest lectured on computational social science methods at the University of Pittsburgh Departments of Public Health and Psychiatry and at Carnegie Mellon University. He has supervised and mentored dozens of research trainees across undergraduate, graduate, and clinical education programs.
