Clinical Interest
Dr. Benson focuses much of her clinical activities on care for underserved patients. As medical director of the Program for Health Care to Underserved Populations (PHCUP), Dr. Benson runs a volunteer team of clinicians and health professionals at the Birmingham Free Clinic, which provides quality medical and pharmaceutical services at no cost to more than 1000 uninsured individuals in the Pittsburgh area each year. Dr. Benson also has a strong clinical interest in women's health and completed the Advanced Women's Health fellowship through the VA Pittsburgh.

Dr. Benson currently sees primary care patients in the General Internal Medicine Clinic at Montefiore Hospital, serves as a supervising ward attending at Montefiore Hospital and supervises Global Health and Underserved Track residents at the Birmingham Free Clinic.
Educational Interest
As a clinician-educator, Dr. Benson has experience working with both medical students and residents in a variety of courses and clinical settings. She has taught courses in the School of Medicine, including Advanced Physical Examination and Advanced Medical Interviewing, and has designed curricular material related to the Social Determinants of Health for various medical school courses. She also works with residents in the internal medicine residency program, supervising Global Health and Underserved Track residents at the Birmingham Free Clinic and serving as a preceptor in the General Internal Medicine Clinic.
