As Division Chief of The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine (PACCM) at the University of Pittsburgh, I would like to welcome you to our website. As highlighted below, our Division features robust research, education, and clinical patient care programs in Lung Disease and Critical Care Medicine.
PACCM is deeply committed to a mission of providing the highest quality, compassionate patient care for patients with lung disease, to mentoring and training medical students, residents, fellows and young faculty, and to research and scientific discovery. PACCM possesses strong translational programs of clinical and research excellence in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute lung injury, interstitial lung disease, sleep medicine, cystic fibrosis, lung transplantation, pulmonary vascular disease, critical care medicine and the functional genomics of lung diseases.
These branches of Institutes and Centers have created a formidable team of physicians who have been recognized repeatedly by their peers for their caring efforts. Because of this commitment to respiratory disorders, we were recently ranked 7th in the nation according to US News and World Report. We applaud the outstanding leadership of our Comprehensive Lung Center programs, as well as our "2013-2014 Top Doctors"; Sally Wenzel, MD (back row left), Matthew Woodske, MD (back row second left), Joel Weinberg, MD (back row center), John Kreit, MD (back row second right), Mark Gladwin, MD (back row right), Rachel Givelber, MD (front row left), Charles Atwood, MD (front row second left), John Reilly, MD (front row center), Alison Morris, MD, MS (front row second right), Kevin Gibson, MD (front row right) and those not pictured: Maria Crespo, MD; Michael Donahoe, MD; Christopher Faber, MD; Joseph Pilewski, MD; Frank Sciurba, MD; Patrick Strollo, MD; David O. Wilson, MD.
We are extremely proud of our success in basic, translational and clinical research. Our Division is one of the most highly funded Pulmonary Programs in the Nation, with more than 31 RO1 equivalents in NIH funding and two training grants in pulmonary and sleep medicine, to name a few.
