Fellowship Training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
The Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship is a three-year program, and time is equally divided between clinical and research training. Each fellow receives 12 months of clinical training in the first year and six months of additional clinical training in the third year. Trainees also participate in outpatient clinics at the Oakland VA Medical Center and the Comprehensive Lung Center throughout the fellowship. The entire second year, as well as half of the third year, is devoted to training in biomedical research. Since the goal of the fellowship is to prepare physicians for a career in academic Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, an additional year of research training is available and is strongly encouraged.
