UPMC Presbyterian Hospital

The UPMC Presbyterian Hospital has two buildings, Presbyterian and Montefiore. The buildings are physically connected and function as a single adult medical/surgical tertiary care hospital. UPMC Presbyterian has 625 medical/surgical beds, 140 critical care beds, and more than 32,000 inpatient admissions per year. The Hospital is staffed by more than 1300 full-time faculty members and is the major training site for all University of Pittsburgh residency and fellowship programs.

Presbyterian Hospitals Presbyterian Hospital Montefiore Hospital

The following training sites are located in the Montefiore Building:

  • Offices of the PACCM Division - A beautiful, newly-constructed 10,000 square foot space containing faculty offices, secretarial offices, and the Division conference room and library.


  • Bronchoscopy laboratory - This facility consists of two large procedure rooms, a central office, and a pre and post-procedure holding area. Both procedure rooms are fitted with state of the art videobronchoscopy and fluoroscopy equipment. Approximately 1500 procedures are performed each year.


  • Pulmonary Function and Exercise Physiology Laboratory - This large facility consists of 7 testing rooms and performs approximately 8500 routine and specialized pulmonary function tests, exercise tests, and respiratory mechanics measurements each year.


  • Sleep Laboratory - This newly-constructed, 6-bed facility performs over 1500 sleep studies each year.

The following training sites are located in the Presbyterian Building:

  • Medical Intensive Care Unit - a newly renovated 24 bed unit that receives over 1200 admissions per year. The MICU is a referral center for critically ill patients with complex medical disorders.

  • Cardiac Care Unit
  • Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit
  • Trauma Intensive Care Unit
  • Neurovascular Intensive Care Unit

Oakland Veterans Administration Medical Center (OVAMC)

Veterans Administration Medical Center

The Oakland VA Medical Center is a short walk from UPMC Presbyterian. The OVAMC has 150 medical/surgical beds and receives approximately 6000 inpatient admissions each year. The 42-bed Critical Care Center, which includes the Medical Intensive Care Unit, is a referral center for VA hospitals in western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and West Virginia.

The Pulmonary Outpatient Clinic serves as a referral center for the Oakland facility and for five other Veterans Administration Hospitals and is a major outpatient training site for our fellows.

UPMC Shadyside Hospital 

UPMC Shadyside Hospital

The UPMC Shadyside Hospital is a large, 500-bed, community-based, tertiary care hospital located approximately three miles east of UPMC Presbyterian. It is the home of the NCI-sponsored Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, which has 450,000 square feet of clinical and research space. 

The Comprehensive Lung Center (CLC)

Comprehensive Lung Center

The Comprehensive Lung Center is the University of Pittsburgh Pulmonary Medicine Outpatient Clinic. It has recently been remodeled and enlarged to 12,000 sq. ft. and 20 exam rooms. In addition to clinics in general Pulmonary Medicine, the CLC has subspecialty clinics in Interstitial Lung Diseases, Asthma and Allergy, Sleep Disorders, Pulmonary Transplantation, Pulmonary Vascular Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, and Emphysema. The CLC is a major outpatient training site for our fellows.
