Dr. Wilson has been associated with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center since his internship in 1980. He has been on the faculty of both the Graduate School of Public Health and the Medical School at the University of Pittsburgh in one capacity or another since 1986. He currently is at UPMC – Shadyside and is the pulmonologist of the Multi-disciplinary Lung Cancer clinic at the Hillman Cancer Center, which he co-founded.
Dr. Wilson is the Director of the Georgia Cooper Lung Nodule/Cancer Proteomics/Genomics Research Registry and Associate Director of the Lung Cancer Center of the Hillman Cancer Center of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. He is the lead clinician for the Pittsburgh Lung cancer Screening Study (PluSS) and co-investigator for the Pittsburgh Lung Cancer SPORE.
He is the principal investigator in Pittsburgh for the Iloprost Chemo-prevention trial. He is the Director of the Nutrition Support Service at UPMC-Shadyside Hospital. He introduced endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) to Pittsburgh and has a longstanding interest in lung cancer staging and treatment.
Dr. Wilson’s research interest include: Lung Cancer screening and chemoprevention, diagnosis, staging and treatment; COPD, especially as it relates to lung cancer; Occupational Lung Diseases; General Pulmonary Medicine; and Nutrition support.
