He completed a categorical residency in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh 2000. He remained at the University of Pittsburgh to complete a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Working with Joseph Pilewski, MD, he completed an additional fellowship year in research focusing on airway epithelial water transport and mucus clearance. This training was funded by the Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA by the NHLBI and was finished in September of 2004. Subsequently, he received an appointment as Instructor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. In 2005 he was promoted to Assistant Professor of Medicine.
Dr Lamberty’s clinical interests are myriad. He attends regularly in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Presyberian University Hospital. He also attends regularly on the Advanced Lung Diseases service with experience in managing pre and post lung transplantation related issues, as well as cystic fibrosis, advanced COPD, and severe asthma.
Dr. Lamberty has a weekly clinic that focuses, but is not limited to, general pulmonary medicine, sleep and hypoventilation disorders, atypical and severe asthma, sarcoidosis, and pulmonary alveolar proteinosis.
Dr. Lamberty’s research interests include airway epithelial cell water and salt regulation. He has clinical research interests in asthma and is developing a prospective study with Dr. Sally Wenzel in enrolling asthmatics with ongoing exacerbations. Their aim is to collect serial biologic material to tests hypotheses regarding airway prostaglandin contribution to asthma exacerbation pathogenesis.
Dr. Lamberty has interest in implementing patient simulation techniques in training housestaff to manage acute life threatening events in the hospital and medical intensive are unit.
Dr. Lamberty contributes regularly to the Division of PACCM’s commitment to medical student teaching: pulmonary pathophysiology problem based learning, 1st and 2nd year medical student physical exam and medical interviewing, as well as Medical Decision Making course for 1st and 2nd year medical students.
