Profile
Carlene A. Muto, MD, MS, is an Assistant Professor, Director of Infection Control and a member of the ID Epidemiology Research Unit. She is board certified in internal medicine and ID. She received a MS of Epidemiology during her ID training at University of Virginia. Her research interests include multidrug resistant bacteria and co-authored the SHEA guideline for Preventing Nosocomial Transmission of Multidrug-Resistant organisms. She has conducted studies to better characterize issues related to the emergence of a novel strain of C. difficile. She has successfully championed a BSI initiative that has resulted in a >70% infection reduction, is interested in IT as it relates to electronic identification of hospital-acquired infections, and participates in many patient safety committees and a variety of CDC related activities. She has chaired the PRHI Nosocomial Infection Advisory Committee, is a member of the PHC4 HAI Advisory Panel and chairs the SW PA MRSA prevention initiative.
