Lee Harrison, M.D. is Professor and Head of the Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Research Unit. He was trained in epidemiology and molecular epidemiology in the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. His research has focused on the epidemiology and molecular epidemiology of important bacterial pathogens, including S. pneumoniae, group B Streptococcus, N. meningitidis, E. coli O157:H7, C. difficile, and Salmonella enterica. Dr. Harrison also has an active research program in Brazil on the epidemiology and vaccine prevention of HIV infection. He is the director of 2 NIH Fogarty international training grants, one on HIV infection and the other on molecular epidemiology of bacterial diseases. Dr. Harrison is also the PI of the Public Health Infectious Diseases Laboratory, a molecular subtyping laboratory that provides training in molecular epidemiology, conducts research, and provides support for the Director of Infection Control at UPMC.
