Dr. Macpherson joined the Division of General Internal Medicine in 1989 and was chief of the Section of General Internal Medicine and head of the Primary Care Service Line at the VA until 2007. He currently is the chief medical officer for the Veterans Integrated Service Network 4, which includes 10 VA facilities and 45 outpatient clinics in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and West Virginia. Dr. Macpherson has national VA leadership roles in primary care and in tobacco cessation. He is a clinician-educator whose clinical and research interests include improving prevention and chronic disease management in primary care practices and smoking cessation.
