Profile
Dr. Smith came to the University of Pittsburgh and the Center for Research on Health Care in 2001 from Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was a clinician-educator and part-time researcher. Over the last decade, he began to focus on research utilizing decision analysis and cost-effectiveness analysis, publishing studies on adult chickenpox, herpes zoster, sildenafil use in erectile dysfunction, and antiviral therapy for influenza. He recently received a research career development award to study optimal strategies for the prevention and management of pelvic inflammatory disease. In addition to his continuing research and clinical practice roles, Dr. Smith is an active educator in decision analysis and cost-effectiveness analysis techniques.
