Research Interest
Dr. Carter has a variety of scholarly interests. She has published and presented nationally on many medical education topics including teaching for retention and assessment and feedback for learners. She has also developed, formally evaluated, and published several curricula to teach trainees how to care for patients with substance use disorders. She has written book chapters and presented nationally on women's health clinical topics including chronic pain, contraception, and menopause.
Clinical Interest
Dr. Carter practices both inpatient and outpatient general internal medicine. She cares for patients admitted to the general internal medicine teaching services at UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore. She has a primary care practice within UPMC General Internal Medicine Oakland (GIMO) at UPMC Montefiore. She completed her internal medicine residency and fellowship training in women's health tracks, and she has a particular interest in treating women's issues.
Educational Interest
Dr. Carter is a clinician-educator and is actively involved in teaching at all levels including students, residents, fellows, and faculty. She is the Program Director for the UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside Internal Medicine Residency Program.
