Profile
Dr. Butt is the director of the International Scholars Program at the University of Pittsburgh which focuses on training outstanding medical graduates who want to pursue academic and research careers. He is also the director of the VAPHS ID/HIV Clinics.

Dr. Butt has been the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship (to Pakistan), a Yale-Johnson&Johnson Scholar Award in International Health (to Russia), and IDSA/HIVMAfaculty trainer award for the AIDS Training Program in Africa. He has organized and conducted numerous training programs in Africa, Australia, Russia, Japan, Pakistan and the United Statess.

Dr. Butt is involved in the hepatitis clinical trials in the NIH-sponsored AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG). He is the chair of ACTG 5266 protocol, the vice chair for ACTG 5178 protocol and the site PI for NIH/NHLBI funded study on determining mechanism of CVD in HIV infected persons and NIH/NIAAA-funded Veterans Aging Cohort Study.
