Within the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, the Division of General Internal Medicine is the largest of 11 divisions and is the most diverse in terms of activities related to patient care, teaching, research, and administration. The University has made a long-term commitment to developing the division's strength and excellence in the practice of primary care at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), in the teaching of primary care and general internal medicine, and in the pursuit of research in nontraditional areas, such as health care outcomes, quality, and cost-effectiveness. In return, the division has contributed greatly to the medical school's mission of providing high-quality education, patient care, and research within a highly successful tertiary care center.

Location and Directions
The Division of General Internal Medicine is located in UPMC Montefiore Hospital (MUH) in the Oakland section of the city of Pittsburgh. See the map of the Oakland area.
The clinical and administrative offices are located on the 9th floor of MUH. From the main entrance of the hospital on the 7th floor, take the elevators in front of the MUH Gift Shop to the 9th floor. When exiting the elevators, turn right toward 9 South. The Division of General Internal Medicine offices are located on 9 West.
